I am a lifelong educator with a PhD in Education. In order to serve our children best, I believe our school board should include expertise in child development, education research, and learning. As a teacher in the New York City public schools, I learned the excitement that comes with helping students make sense of their world and the challenge of providing the necessary supports to all of my students and their families. Since then I have worked as a staff developer and education consultant in schools throughout the US and internationally. I work in classrooms, schools, and districts, supporting these complex systems in identifying priorities, building consensus, and instituting structural supports to achieve the agreed upon goals. I have worked locally with education technology companies, at the Stanford Teacher Education Program, and in large and small districts throughout the Bay Area.
I received my BA in Psychology and MA in Education from New York University and completed my PhD in Education from Stanford University Graduate School of Education.
I live in the Evergreen Park neighborhood with my husband, three children, two cats, and one puppy.
I have served as Vice President of the Ohlone PTA, chair of the Ohlone Site Council, and as an active member of the district’s LGBTQQ committee. I currently serve on the Elementary Math Curriculum Adoption committee and the Dreamcatchers Math Advisory Board.
My priorities include:
• Ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and supported, academically and emotionally.
• Continuing to work to improve equity and access to needed resources, supports, and challenges for all students.
• Working to increase innovation to reach these goals more easily and provide every student with a 21st-century education.
These priorities will guide me while I consider all issues and decisions that come before the Board.
According to the US Department of Labor, 65% of all students will work in jobs that don’t yet exist. We are no longer preparing our students for specific jobs, rather teaching them how to be learners, thinkers, connectors, and innovators. PAUSD does an excellent job at providing a superb experience to many of our students. I believe there is important work to be done to ensure all of our students are challenged, engaged, and healthy.
I am committed to fiscal responsibility, transparency, and improving communication among all parties throughout the district.
I would be honored to serve our community as a member of the School Board and I welcome your ideas and suggestions.
